The Apple iPod is either a ice-white slice of design brilliance or a brick of overrated cappuccino-froth dreamt up by Californian hippies. Personally, I quite like it. However, having had one for a couple of months there are a few things that would be so easy to fix, it seems insulting that Apple haven’t gotten round to it yet… so let the whiny bitch-fest commence!

This is the view looking north (I think!) from Arthur’s Seat, the extinct volcano in the heart of Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park. Possibly the best public park to capture a sense of wildness while being extremely close to the center of a town. Richmond Park is the only other that comes close, but that doesn’t have a bloody great big hill in the middle, of course…
(Taken last year in September, with my Nokia camera-phone - there’ll be a few more of these now as I can now transfer the images back to my PC.)

This is the floor of one of the Winter Gardens in the Jubilee Place shopping center in Canary Wharf. There’s some lovely mosaics on the floor of the main concourse as well which may be featuring if the weather doesn’t perk up a bit…
For the attention of any Perl regexp hackers:
The Regex Coach is pretty impressive - it’s a tool for interactively working through regexps and makes working out why your regexp isn’t doing what it’s supposed to very easy. Definately worth a look…

Jan 22nd is the Chinese New Year - the Year of the Monkey apparently. I suspect this will be a good excuse for drunken behaviour this year!
My new employers cheerfully arranged a lion dance for us in main reception which was quite fun…

Ever tempted to wallop a penguin with a baseball bat? Are you a yeti-like creature? Then wait no more and play smack the pingu!!!11 [warning: flash]
(thanks to Dave for the link, whose high score of 581 or so I still can’t beat…)
Update: Note that my high score is 593.5 - beat that, losers!!!1 (I don’t actually have any proof but I swear that it’s possible…)
